AR Magazine

This world's first marker less AR magazine was our starting point. We are now capable to use consumer PC's with marker less AR, so we could focus on Augmented Reality Games!

How did it work?

The user could download the PC software from the publisher’s website. After installing the software, the user could select a webcam and start showing the special pages.

The magazine had 12 pages that could be recognized by the user via a small logo. When the user showed the page or ad to the webcam, the page came alive.

What were the results/opinions?

We received many enthusiastic reactions from the publishing market. This is a new cross media platform that can boost their offline and online sales.

We could measure the usage. Each page has it’s own logo of the advertiser and a link to their website. The image of the logo came from our webserver, so we could monitor the usage per ad. Although we thought the number of uses was low (we expected a snowball effect, because it’s revolutionary), the publisher told us that the result was great.

Are there additional commercial possibilities?

We added update/messaging functionality to the software package. With this functionality we can offer updates to all users. A new release of the magazine would only mean providing new content to existing users. This update/messaging functionality is great for commercial purposes. We can offer additional “paid” content (new levels, new possibilities and changed content).

We can make sure that you can only access a specific page on internet via our application. So you need an offline image to see online content. This makes the magazine a cinema ticket to first see a trailer and then click on the link to see the complete movie online.

What’s next?

Wouldn’t it be cool to play with an ad or what if you could interact with the 3D animation by touching the ad on specific places? It’s already possible! Naturally we are also focusing on doing the same via mobile or via a kiosk in retail stores.
